ANGELIQUE LABOUR
What does your art bring to you?
As far as I can remember, I always loved drawing and painting. As a child, my friends would always ask me for a drawing, I was a creative child. As I got older, I began to recognize a feeling while using my creativity; I felt disconnected to the exterior world and connected to my inner self. Being a sensitive person, I know that one of my best therapies is holding a pen or a brush and letting my soul express itself.
What artwork would you like to see in real life?
Van Gogh being one of the greatest artists of all times and one of my favourites, my answer would be The Starry Night in the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. In addition to this, I am a true night sky lover, I love star gazing and this painting speaks to me. And let’s admit it, the painting is kind of trippy!
What are your inspirations?
Being a woman in this society can be kind of difficult if you do not have a lot of self-confidence. I love to support women of all ethnicity, all shapes, all sexual orientations, they are my everyday inspiration. I also get inspired by Nature as we live on such a beautiful island full of treasures and we have an amazing ecosystem.
I draw my inspiration from my emotions, whether I feel sad, happy, stressed, anxious, I can use this to imagine my state of mind and illustrate it.
What are your dreams?
My dream is to change the mindsets, to teach people the importance of respecting each other, to stop judging, to be more resilient, empath, and kind, to us but also to Nature, to our environment. I wish I could leave a meaningful message through my art that will mark the minds, a good memory. I wish we could all support each other, artist or not.
