The Mask Challenge

Dr. Plague, flowers, fabric… Many of our followers were inspired by our mask-making competition that we launched for the confinement period. Throughout the lockdown, we received many submissions of inventive and original designs that we are happy to share with you!

1) Melisa Madanamootoo

You would be (almost) sure to never catch any airborne diseases with this mask created by Melisa Madanamootoo and inspired by the costume worn by plague doctors in the 17th century.

Originally created by French architect Charles de Lorme, the costume was used by physicians who treated patients suffering from the bubonic plague. The beak was filled with aromatic scents believed to keep away viruses.

2) Aurelia Ritter

Aurélia Ritter came up with a colourful and all-natural mask consisting entirely of flowers. This hippie-style mask would definitely set you apart in the new mask trend!

3) Eleonore Audi

Eleonore Audi from France came up with a brilliant mask. Made up of flashy garlands and other accessories, her mask promises to get you ready for a carnival.

4) Palvishee Jeewoon

Palvishee Jeewoon came up with an expressive and artistic mask made up of a cluster of different fabric materials. Her work seeks to represent the sense of a lost identity that wearing a mask can entail.

5) Anne-Fleur Tailly

Your mask doesn’t have to be boring! From Tanzania, Anne-Fleur Tailly created beautiful masks from fabric with floral patterns that match her outfits.

6) Elizabeth Ellis

With her dainty mask, Elizabeth Ellis from Belgium showed her amazing embroidery skills!

7) Annabelle Ah-chong

Annabelle Ah-chong also showed us her great embroidery skills with her simple and beautiful fabric mask.

8) Yashna Meetoo

For her submission, Yashna Meetoo flaunted her painting skills with a great Salvador Dali / Money Heist themed face mask.
